8x6" Mixed Media on Paper
A mixed-media work on warm, textured paper showing a lone figure standing in profile, absorbed in a small stack of pamphlets he holds in both hands. The figure is drawn and painted with a more realistic touch, while the setting around him is spare, atmospheric, and dreamlike.

The figure
He wears a light baseball cap with a small red-pink emblem, a loose off-white T-shirt, and sneakers in gray and white with flashes of neon yellow-green. His face is painted with a few confident planes of warm brown, rose, and ochre, and his downward gaze gives him a quiet, concentrated, slightly weary or contemplative air. Black ink contours and loose, scratchy linework hold the painted areas together, giving him a sketched-from-life immediacy.

The collage shorts
The most striking material moment is his shorts, which are built from torn paper fragments in crimson, magenta, mustard, green, and black, with a scrap bearing the letters "A" and bits of what looks like printed imagery. They make his clothing the one place where the work becomes dense and chaotic, and they draw the eye to the center of the composition.

Background and atmosphere
The paper is stained with tea- or coffee-like washes, creating drifting amber and golden blooms, especially along the right edge and top. These stains read like heat haze, dusty light, or an aged photograph. A small spiral in ochre and pink floats at right, hovering like a sun, a ball in flight, or a mark of memory or motion. It’s the only purely abstract element, and it balances the figure’s weight on the left.

The ground line
Along the bottom, a strip of torn-paper collage forms a horizon of patterned fragments in reds, blues, oranges, and blacks. On this strip sit small, delicate narrative clues: tents or canopies and a corner flag on the left, a minimal drawn goal in the middle, and a soccer ball rendered in collage at right. Together they place the scene at a soccer field or tournament, with the figure seemingly towering over it like a giant, as if memory has enlarged him.

Mood and themes
The composition feels like a portrait built from memory: a coach or sideline figure, caught in a private moment of preparation or reflection, with the game’s world reduced to small symbols beneath him. The contrast between the open, stained space above and the busy collage band below gives the piece a nice tension between quiet and activity.
