12x12" Acrylic on Cradled Wood Panel
Composition and color
The ground is a soft, chalky field of pale lavender, mint, and buttery cream, applied in broad, scraped and dragged strokes that leave visible streaks and a slightly translucent, layered quality. Around the edges, deeper teal-blue and slate areas frame the pale center, with scattered accents of hot pink, magenta, violet, ochre, and orange. Small blocks of color along the top edge read almost like a distant row of buildings or a patchwork horizon.
The focal point
Left of center, a large hand-drawn black circle, looped twice like an ink-brush enso, anchors the piece. Inside it sits a dense, glossy knot of thick black paint that looks like a coiled spiral. From this point, a cluster of heavy black dashes and bars stretches to the right, almost like a rhythmic notation or a mechanical form in motion. Beneath them is the most saturated area of the painting: a tilted wedge of neon pink, red, orange, gold, and plum, with a thin ochre line and tiny tick marks along its edge.
Line work
Several fine lines cross the surface: a thin black line running diagonally through the circle, and delicate pencil lines with loose scribbles and looping marks on the right side. In the upper left, a small contour drawing in black marker outlines a bell shape. This contrast between thick, impasto black and whisper-thin graphite gives the painting its sense of scale and spontaneity.
Mood and style
It feels playful yet balanced, with a lot of open, quiet space offsetting one dense burst of energy. The influences seem to be abstract expressionism and gestural mark-making, with a contemporary palette. The black marks function almost like calligraphy or a musical score on a soft, atmospheric field.
